Internet Violence
Two hundred million people a day log on to the Internet. It allows instant access to billions upon billions of pieces of information. Yet with all its benefits, it's a lawless frontier and home to a new breed of criminals where people can remain nameless and faceless.
VIOLENCE: its most frequent form is physical or verbal, but violence can also be transmitted through the written word. The written word has for centuries been used to privilege certain groups in society over others, in what can only be described as institutional and linguistic violence. Most recently, the internet has become a powerful tool for the spread of knowledge and resistance, but also for the dissemination of hatred and prejudice. We currently have even fewer controls over internet hate-literature than we do over that found in print media.
